Helsinki – A new residential building offers an original experience as people walk up the stairs.
The railings on each floor in the eight-storey building are painted in different tones of grey, to create the illusion of extra space, and bent into innovative shapes. One takes the form of a bench, to allow people to rest on their way up; another creates a balcony to give an overview of a creation that is as much a piece of art as a stairwell.
The project, Kaide-taide, meaning ‘art-handling’, was created by the Helsinki-based Company design duo of Aamu Song and Johan Olin.
