US - Microblogging platform Tumblr has launched a new app that can be customised by its users. So far so ordinary - except this app offers enough personalisation for every internet user on the planet.
Tumblr's updated iOS and Android app, launched earlier this month, allows users to tweak their Tumblrs on smartphones and tablets. The range of options is relatively small - header image, avatar, avatar shape, title font, title color, background color, and accent color can all be changed - but it is much larger than that offered by any other social network or blogging platform. Taken together, the possibilities expand exponentially to create 3.3 billion unique layout options, one for every internet user on earth.
'In the early 2000s, [the web] started to take a pretty sharp turn towards vanilla, white profile pages,' Tumblr founder David Karp told The Verge. 'Now, it’s like your Instagram profile looks exactly, pixel-for-pixel, like everybody’s Instagram profile.'
