Paris – The European Space Agency (ESA) has released a short film that blends fact and fiction to mark the next step in the audacious Rosetta mission, due to take place on 12 November 2014.

The Rosetta mission was launched in 2004 to discover the origins of comets and the roots of our solar system. Rosetta was sent to follow the comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko, and is soon due to deploy a lander to the surface of the comet.

The film, Ambition, stars Aidan Gillen from Game of Thrones and tells a story that merges fact and fiction. Gillen plays a magical master teaching an apprentice who is attempting to manipulate the matter of a barren celestial landscape using telekinesis. ESA collaborated with Platige Image to make the film, which was directed by BAFTA-winning director Tomasz Bagiński.

Set far into the future, the film references the Rosetta mission as the beginning of a much broader and more ambitious series of expeditions. It strikes a balance between suspending disbelief and incorporating elements of real-world events that are unfolding, helping to create a captivating and inspiring narrative for viewers to immerse themselves in.
