Japan – Fashion house Issey Miyake has released a stunning video demonstrating the 3D Stretch Steam technique used to create its spring/summer 2015 collection.

The art of origami and folding has always featured in the work of Issey Miyake, and the most recent collection is no exception. While appearing to be made using origami, however, the fabric has been folded by steam, with the assistance of computer software that accurately calculates the composition of the cotton and polyester weaves.

To announce the development of its latest technology, the brand has produced a video exploring the delicacy of the process. The short film focuses on the weaving of the fabric, playing with speeds and perspective to a tranquil soundtrack. The overall effect is harmonious, refined and poetic.

Speaking ahead of the opening of the new London flagship store, Yoshiyuki Miyamae, head of womenswear, said: ‘We want to tell everyone that we take importance in being innovative with technology and coming up with new ideas from it.’
