London - The Unseen, a collective that explores the relationship between technology, art and design, has launched the Emporium at Somerset House
The Unseen is an ‘exploration house’ that examines the science of art and design through fantastical and luxury products, such as a crystal-encrusted Swarovski headpiece that can read brain activity and changes colour accordingly. The collective’s first Emporium, located in the New Wing at Somerset House, showcases a select number of its one-off, technology-infused clothes and accessories.
The pieces on show include Air, a series of handcrafted leather garments that change colour in response to the weather, and a new piece called Eighth Sense, a garment that boldly claims to project its wearer’s state of mind and changes colour in response to mood. A range of colour-changing gifts is available, priced between £25 and £75, and The Unseen is also hosting a range of workshops where visitors can paint their own colour-changing feathers.
Earlier this year, Lauren Bowker, the 28-year-old ‘material alchemist’ who leads the Unseen, visited LS:N Global and spoke to senior journalist Rowland Manthorpe about her work. Watch the interview here.
