Mobile World Congress 2017, Barcelona – Sony Mobile has introduced a new interactive projector that converts any surface into a touch-sensitive interface.

  • Compatible with Playstation 4, the Xperia Touch can run any app or game downloaded from the Google Play store
  • The device detects movement via its in-built camera and infrared light

The projected touchscreen, which was shown as an experimental concept at the 2016 SXSW conference, will now be sold commercially in spring this year. The device enables users to project a 23-in high-definition touchscreen onto any surface – both horizontal and vertical.

According to a statement from the company, the Xperia Touch has been developed to encourage a more communal approach to technology in the home. ‘[It] enables family and friends to gather around a table, kitchen island or flat wall to enjoy games, watch online video streaming services and communicate using messaging apps and social networks.’

The compact, wireless projector runs on Android’s operating system and has an in-built camera that operates at 60 frames per second, creating a fast, fluid interface.
