New York – The classic polo shirt has been restyled to incorporate history into the design. Lacoste, famous for its crocodile logo, commissioned Chinese artist Li Xiaofeng to re-imagine the materials and fit.

It took Xiaofeng three months to paint, fire, fragment, shape, polish and finally link together 317 porcelain shards to create the Porcelain Polo. One narrative features images of a scholar surrounded by what are called the ‘Four Gentlemen’ in classical Chinese painting, namely an orchid, bamboo, chrysanthemum and plum blossom. The artist will create a similar print for a limited-edition polo shirt for men and women.
