Stockholm – A former airliner jet has been converted into a multi-roomed hostel, offering a new, affordable type of accommodation and demonstrating how the leisure industry can make and mend existing constructions.
Jumbo Hostel, housed in a decommissioned Boeing 747-200 that once belonged to a now-bankrupt airline company, was transformed into a 25-bedroom hotel by hotelier Oscar Diös. New bathroom facilities have been added so that guests are spared the cramped toilet experience so familiar to air travellers. The jet/hostel is now permanently parked at the entrance to Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport.
Open from this month, Jumbo Hostel is a new example of how the leisure sector can embrace a considered frugality whilst offering an innovative hotel experience. For more new hotel concepts, see our forthcoming Leisure Futures report.
