Seattle – American actor Adrien Grenier and co-founder Justin Hawkins have launched new lager brand Churchkey Can Co, which uses flat-top beer cans that require a churchkey opener and which were standard packaging in the 40s and 50s.
The flat-top steel can was first introduced in 1935, but disappeared with the invention of the ring pull-tab can in the mid-60s. Churchkey Can Co has re-introduced the packaging in an effort to revive the original experience of beer drinking.
‘It’s about the joy of drinking good beer – from the people you drink it with to where you drink it and, now, how you open it. We didn’t make these traditions, but are keeping them alive with Churchkey,’ says Hawkins.
The brand video is also given a vintage aesthetic to emphasise the Revivalist theme of the concept. Find out more in our Revivalism macrotrend.
