Portland, Oregon – To promote its first line of snowboarding boots, adidas has created a striking website that uses parallax scrolling to showcase the new products and multimedia.
The star of the site is Jake Blauvelt, a rising star in snowboarding from Vermont. Scrolling down the page produces a variation in the speed of the imagery that creates an illusion of depth, which works particularly well when trying to convey the scale of a mountainous backdrop.
As users scroll, a film slides into view, introducing them to the new adidas ‘après shred’ boots. Photos follow, before the products come dramatically into the frame. Although the site now features Blauvelt, it will eventually include the entire adidas snowboarding team.
More designers and developers are exploring the possibilities of HTML5 and brands are taking notice. We noticed another example of the innovative use of scrolling in a recent Seed.
