London – A treat is in store for the City boys who have thus far managed to avoid redundancy – a plush new members’ club, fit for the modern gent, featuring a restaurant, bar, library, cigar lounge and even an onsite tailor. Eight Moorgate, the sister club of Eight Bank, opens this month with exclusive views from its rooftop position in the heart of the city.
The glass-and-steel exterior houses an up-to-date take on a 1920s smoking lounge, with porcelain chandeliers and velvet chaises, and hosts a series of oak cases in which members can store their own personal spirits. Modern dandies will appreciate, too, that Savile Row tailor Boland and Banks is on hand for alterations and fittings.
Although such an opulent space seems inappropriate in times of recession, its traditional approach is at least timely, as many affluent males are currently paying greater attention to past times, regaining a taste for long-established brands and classic luxury.
