Over a period of three weeks earlier this summer, people picked their way through a construction site in Stratford, London. It will eventually be a new Westfield shopping centre, at the heart of the 2012 Olympic Park, but for now it was all raw concrete and metal. The visitors ducked through a shipping container into the only finished things around, three gleaming lifts, which whizzed them up to the roof and to a temporary dining room and pavilion offering a 360-degree view of the city.
