Leuven, Belgium – New designs from rapid manufacturing studio .MGX are to be shown at Design Miami next week. The maker of homewares and furniture uses the 3D printing techniques to produce work – often manufactured as a single piece, without seams or joints – that would be impossible to create with more traditional methods.
The collection will include the ‘Julia.MGX’ chandelier by sculptor Peter Jansen, and Platform Studio’s ‘Fractal.MGX’ coffee table, whose design was inspired by the growth patterns of trees.
Three-dimensional printing techniques, as explored by .MGX and Viennese design studio Vandasye, are set to alter the way we produce and consume in the future. The days of retailers’ stock rooms could be numbered.
