Berlin – Spanish shoe brand Camper takes a step into Germany, as its eatery Dos Palillos opens in Berlin’s increasingly hip Mitte district.
Designed by the Bouroullec brothers, the restaurant – whose title means ‘two chopsticks’ – is an interesting mélange of styles. The principal accent is on a pared-down space of simple materials: warm wood, stainless and the brothers’ Steelwood stools in white. This no-frills aesthetic gives diners the impression that their money is going into the most important ingredient of all: the food, created by ex-El Bulli chef Albert Raurich.
At one end though, there is a crushed, gold floor-length curtain – a nod to Blingamalism – which we feel highlights the simplicity of the rest of the restaurant.
Dos Pallilos is open now, the rooms in the Casa Camper hotel above open in January 2010.
