Offenbach am Main, Germany – Drawing on industrial materials, a new cabinet takes a modest approach to furniture design.
The ‘Tauber-Cabinet’, a combination sideboard-bench designed by Sebastian Herkner, was inspired by the metal coverings seen on ventilation shafts. The brass surface reflects its surroundings so the piece neatly melts into the space. In addition, the industrial aesthetic introduces a rougher, tougher contrast to the discreet and subtle design, creating a mood in line with the luxury shame that is emerging in a post-recession era.
