London – Two prototype pint glasses designed to reduce alcohol-related injury were unveiled today at the Design Council by the UK Home Secretary Alan Johnson.
The safer pint glasses, designed not to shatter into dangerous shards, have been produced under the Design Out Crime programme, an initiative from the Home Office’s Design & Technology Alliance Against Crime and Design Council.
Governments are increasingly turning to design as a means of influencing behaviour, as highlighted in our report
Prohibition Culture and reported in our Inform interview with the project manager of the Design Out Crime Programme, Rob Bult.
The revolutionary prototypes will now undergo a range of tests before being piloted in pubs and bars. See tomorrow’s Insight News story where we will unpack the innovation behind the new glasses, and discuss the potential impact for the on-trade industry.
