Bath – Taking inspiration from luxury hotels, a new clinic is helping patients recuperate in style.
Designed by London-based architects Foster + Partners, the CircleBath hospital aims to promote intimacy – a sentiment often overlooked in larger hospitals. ‘It takes advantage of the rural setting, the light and the views,’ says Spencer de Grey, head of design.
The building, which appears to be floating, has 28 bedrooms, some of which have balconies where patients can view the countryside. To further ease stress, the operating theatres are large enough to allow a panoramic view of a private garden outside. Utility spaces such as hospitals are increasingly borrowing the clean airiness of the spa aesthetic, as explored in our Revamped Utilities micro trend.
