Cocktail bouquet: Bar sells drinks based on fragrance

Berlin – When you ask for the cocktail menu at Fragrances, the new bar inside the Ritz-Carlton, you will not receive a typical list of libations.

Instead, you will be guided to a visual, sensory menu and it is the scent you choose that determines the cocktail you drink.

The visual display includes a fragrance bottle of scents from renowned brands such as Giorgio Armani, L’Artisan Parfumeur and Annick Goutal, as well as the ingredients to make the matching cocktail. Guests are invited to touch and smell the display, to determine what drink they want based on the scent. When they receive the cocktail, it smells strikingly similar to the perfume they selected.

'At Fragrances, we want our guests not only to enjoy their drinks but to experience them,' says Arnd Heissen, Fragrances bar manager and mixologist. 'Our new bar doesn’t only appeal to the nose and palate, but also to the eye, the ear and our natural play instinct.'

People are searching for innovative experiences that tantalise more than just the one sense. For more, read our Innovate on Le Cinéma Olfactif and our Sensory Splurge microtrend.
