London – As part of the 2014 London Design Festival, Lee Broom has launched his new Nouveau Rebel lighting and accessories collection.
The collection, which includes lighting, glasses and candlesticks, is designed mainly in marble, a material that Broom says is often associated with the nouveau riche. His aim is to make marble feel contemporary and modern, giving it a tongue-in-cheek twist by referencing 1980s styling. ‘Marble is starting to get a reputation for being more of a contemporary, honest material than a luxury material,’ says Broom.
One piece that stands out is a tube light, skillfully cut from a single piece of Carrara marble and finished with brass ends.
Designers are increasingly finding ways to create renaissance pieces fit for a modern age. For more on the London Design Festival, visit our Seed and Shows sections.
