Acapulco, Mexico – A beautifully restored hotel in this coastal town is set to greet its design-savvy guests with the revived glamour of 1950s and 60s Hollywood. Hotel Boca Chica, the newest addition to the portfolio of star hotelier Grupo Habita, was carefully renovated to its original midcentury splendour by Mexico City architects Frida Escobedo and José Rojas, and antique curator Claudia Fernández.
The restoration brings out the building’s original features, including its terrazzo floors, marble and granite mosaics, and lattice celosia brickwork. The sprucing up of the modernist structure, showcased in the 1963 Elvis movie Fun in Acapulco, also nostalgically calls to mind the town’s heyday, when American movie stars and members of the jetset swanned around its amoeba-shaped pool and gazed out over the bay.
With its vintage furniture, its modern lines, its cool whites and fresh greens, Hotel Boca Chica is ready for its close-up.
