New York – Urban developer David Belt thinks recycling is a bit boring. So to change this he has created the Glassphemy! project, a giant recycling bin that allows people to throw bottles at each other without causing them harm.
The bin consists of a huge clear box constructed from bulletproof glass. People who want to release a little aggression can throw glass bottles at anyone standing on the other side of the reinforced see-through walls.
‘Recycling is so boring,’ says Belt. ‘We tried to make it a little more exciting. People just want to smash things.’
With Prohibition Culture coercing consumers into behaving in increasingly environmental ways, the Glassphemy! project proves that such a movement can still provide a little humour.
