Edible 6-pack rings by Saltwater Brewery and Entelequia, Florida

Florida, US – Entelequia and craft brewer Saltwater Brewery have teamed up to help marine wildlife.

  • A high volume of plastic six-pack rings end up in the oceans and pose a serious threat to wildlife
  • Saltwater Brewery is the first of its kind to develop a biodegradable packaging solution

The two companies have worked together to fight the effects of the brewing industry on marine wildlife by creating an edible six-pack ring made from barley and wheat remnants from the brewing process.

Should the packaging find its way into the water it will become a valuable source of nourishment for marine wildlife. ‘Besides being 100% biodegradable, compostable and edible, it had to be strong enough to hold the weight and the typical handling of the cans,’ explains Francisco Garcia, chief engineer at Entelequia.
