Global – A new voice-activated digital book app aims to instil confidence in young children learning to read.
- The Snow Fox uses SiriKit to process and respond to voices
- The visuals come to life as the child reads the text aloud
The Snow Fox is a digital reading aid developed by ad agency AKQA that animates the story as the child narrates it. Words appear on the screen and fade from view as the child reads, and the book transitions seamlessly from one scene to the next without mimicking the page-turning action of a traditional book.
The book, which is designed to be read with a parent, references the child’s name and gender throughout to immerse children in the story.
By combining the digital and physical worlds with the act of reading together, The Snow Fox aims to fuel the imaginations of Generation I children, and serves as a tool to foster deep connections between parent and child.
The Big Picture
Apps such as The Snow Fox and Campfire are enhancing the bedtime story experience to encourage reading together and promote the parent-child relationship.
