London – EWE Zine is billed as the world’s first video magazine.
- The independent lifestyle magazine covers music, fashion, politics, technology, art and design
- It is described as a celebration of the ‘slow internet’ movement by founder Jough McLeod
Published on the EWE Zine website and YouTube, the digital publication is defined as a magazine rather than a tv show because it will be published periodically on an ongoing basis rather than as a weekly series. ‘I want EWE Zine to be more playful in terms of layout and format than a tv show, just like traditional print magazines,’ McLeod explained to Mag Culture.
EWE Zine will be published two to three times a year. The first issue comprises an interview with Halifax band The Orielles, a fruit-themed streetwear lookbook and a mini documentary on the Women’s March in London.
The format aims to create a more immersive, connected experience for ‘readers’, as they can listen to a band’s music while they are being interviewed and buy the clothes featured in the lookbook by following links in the video description.
The Big Picture
Publishers such as Screen Shot and EWE are exploring new ways of digitalising traditional media formats to offer readers more immersive content that goes beyond the confines of the printed page.
