New York – The toolkit was created to explain the gap that maternity leave creates on CVs.
Designed as a passion project by creative agency Mother New York, The Pregnancy Pause provides women with a sample CV, listing the project as one of the applicant’s referees. They also encourage women to describe the experiences they have gained since being on maternity leave.
Mothers can also link The Pregnancy Pause to their LinkedIn page, explaining the gap to potential employers in a simple way. The agency hopes to cement the idea in the workplace that ‘maternity leave – whether 12 weeks or 12 years – isn't a vacation’.
In addition, the initiative is intended to stimulate a wider discussion about statutory maternity leave in the US, which now stands at 12 weeks unpaid leave.
The Big Picture
- The Pregnancy Pause encourages women and prospective employers to remember that being a full-time mother is not a holiday, and that any gap should not be treated as a blemish on their CVs
