Stockholm – A Swedish design duo has collaborated with South African craftsmen to create a collection of furniture designs.
Tor Palm and Mattias Rask have highlighted different cultural traditions by creating work for local people. To do so, they teamed up with the South African centre for excellence in the furniture industry Furntech, which offers training programmes, and ceramics studio The Potter’s Workshop.
The result is a knock-down stool and sideboard, along with a selection of hand-decorated ceramic lamps. The sideboard, for example, is a painted drawer with a big wooden front made from local materials.
