London – In a dark basement in the Brompton Design District, coffee and conviviality is on the menu. FoodMarketo, an on-going collaboration between Apartamento magazine and food studio DesignMarketo, has converted the space into an exhibition called Coffee & Friends for the London Design Festival.
Inside, visitors can sit, chat and drink espressos around furniture designed by Max Lamb and Lars Frideen. An assortment of products is also on sale, including a special edition tablecloth by artist Amandine Alessandra and a ‘friendship cup’ (coppa dell’amicizia) by architectural studio Arabeschi di Latte that enables six people to share a liquored beverage. The coffee, with a hint of chocolate aroma, is courtesy of London-based roaster Jack Coleman.
In addition, the space functions as a workshop with a different guest host each day. For example, on Friday, designer Nelly Ben Hayoun, recently profiled in our Inform section, will host a Home Chaos Workshop and teach people how to make a home volcano using coffee and smoke bombs.
Food workshops and curated dining, and the ways in which they can be used to engage consumers offline, will feature as part of our forthcoming Conviviality Culture trend.
LS:N Global will continue to report on key exhibitions and shows from the London Design Festival throughout the week.
