New York – The Dutch post-graduate design programme Werkplaats Typografie invites visitors to the New York Art Book Fair to contribute to the school curriculum in return for specially designed products.
Instead of just buying books from the fair, visitors are encouraged to bring books they consider to be a ‘must-read’ for art and design students to ‘Feed the Library’. In exchange they can trade the books for a selection of artefacts designed by the students. These include ‘‘Surprise! Surprise!’, which is a collection of 18 disposable cameras containing photographs taken by the students, ‘‘Greetings & Hugs’, which is a ‘one-way’ pen pal subscription and ‘Free Books’, a lesson on how to acquire free books. All items will be on show during the fair.
As LS:N Global explores in the Rurban Revolution report, the increased focus on community means Rurbanites prefer to share and swap with each other.
Organised by art collective Printed Matter, the swap will take place between November 5 and 7 at Moma PS1, New York.
