Eindhoven – South Korean designers Joon&Jung have created a speaker made from porcelain and wood.
The Natural Speaker is made from a hand-moulded ceramic housing, supported by a base of wooden sticks. ‘A lot of speakers are constructed to produce a fat bass and sharp high notes, and we felt the sound was stuck inside the speakers, missing a natural vibe and ambience,’ explain the designers. ‘During the development of The Natural Speaker we discovered the great properties of porcelain as a speaker casting, and how it provides a clear resonance and mellow sound.’
LS:N Global has explored how the use of natural, mixed materials are being used in design to create a tactile experience. For more examples, read our Soft Reduction design direction.
