Paris – Designer Katie Eary has produced a film in collaboration with Dazed Digital to accompany her spring/summer 2012 menswear collection, on show this week.
The inspiration for the film ‘was based on the French Foreign Legion, out in the desert, surviving on the bare minimum and relying on birds of prey for food’. ‘The film was made using the bare minimum, resulting in an extremely pixelated, trippy and energetic feel. I would say this depicts the collection perfectly,’ Eary tells LS:N Global.
During the film, models appear to be projected onto a blue screen, but rather than using technology to make it look polished and believable, an impression of the model remains on the screen. It is almost as though the image has been partly erased.
Reminiscent of video chat programs or low-fi computer games, the film evokes a form of digital nostalgia that is a clever way to appeal to Eary’s Millennial consumer target. The collage effect, ghostly silhouettes and distortion all add to the mystery, resulting in a captivating way to unveil the collection.
