Three’s a charm: Fantasy redesign explores origins of fashion

Sittard, The Netherlands – Fashion boutique Labels has received a dramatic overhaul, thanks to Maurice Mentjens Design. The new space is divided into three distinct areas, each conveying a different feel. A ‘wooded’ area decorated with stark steel trees looks to the Garden of Eden for inspiration; a stark white space calls on purity and innocence; and a darkened third space conjures up a sense of mythology and a lost paradise. The themes are common to Mentjens’s work, which often embraces a feel for myth and the mystical. For Labels, Mentjens aimed to recreate a sense of the origins of fashion – ‘the mother of all the arts’.
