United States – Waking up senses not usually associated with enjoying music, a new cd cover offers more than an audible experience of its contents. The new album by masked hip-hop star MF Doom, a reissue of his 2004 ‘Mm..Food’ release, allows fans to scratch and sniff to smell a hint of hamburger. The smellable packaging was made possible with the use of a silver Mylar wrap, a thin polyester film normally used in instant foods such as Pop-Tarts.
With the music industry waking up to a reality in which online software such as Spotify makes music ownership moot, the industry is fighting back to put the spotlight on the tangible aspects of owning music, making its products all the more appealing.
