US – App developer Square has launched Card Case, a new service for the iPhone that enables purchases to be made simply by saying your name at the cash register.
Card Case detects when a customer is within 100 metres of a store, and then automatically opens a payment tab. Merchants can see the customer’s open tab on a register app, also designed by Square. The customer simply enters the store and quotes their name when buying something.
This is a friction-free way to buy in-store. For more on how smart retailers are integrating in-store with technology, read our Augmented Retail microtrend.
