Milan – Department store La Rinascente is hosting 100 hours of hacking events in its basement with the tagline All Hail The Tinkerers.
The retailer approached curator Beatrice Galilee to create a cultural event as a counterpart to the usual product-based exhibitions during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. ‘I think there is a shift towards retailers feeling increasingly responsible for the cultural output of their city,’ Galilee tells LS:N Global.
The resulting Hacked Lab is a series of spaces where designers such as Studio FormaFantasma, Technology Will Save Us and food designer Caroline Hobkinson, run interactive workshops. As LS:N Global left this afternoon designer Dominic Wilcox was racing a 3D printing machine to produce a ceramic model of The Duomo.
