San Francisco – American company Leap Motion has unveiled The Leap, a device that enables people to control a computer in using gesture recognition to enable people to control a computer in 3D by moving their hands and fingers.
Housed in a small rectangular case and powered by a USB connection, The Leap technology creates a 3D interaction space around a computer that can distinguish the movement of each finger and thumb by up to 1/100th of a millimeter to control the computer.
The Leap is due to be launched in December 2012 and will be priced at $69.99.
Like the Raspberry Pi, The Leap is a low-cost computer innovation that meets consumer demand for affordable technology. The Leap is also a good example of the advances in intuitive interfaces noted in our Intuitive Futures macrotrend.
