Milan – The Capsule for Adidas by Tom Dixon is an installation designed to demonstrate the sports brand’s knowledge of performance through Dixon’s inventive and slick designs.
The 20-piece collection features padded parker coats that convert into sleeping bags, hoodies that can be folded into small pouches for travel, a five-in-one design that changes to a coat, jacket, trouser, skirt or short, as well as accessories with multiple functions, such as duffle bags that change into suitcases.
Through the creative use of aesthetics and materials and the presentation of the pieces on a carousel within a factory setting, Dixon aimed to show Adidas as a forward-thinking brand that is tapping into the 21st-century desire to be mobile.
The installation was shown at MOST during Milan Design Week on 9–14 April 2013. For more on projects shown in Milan, read our Seed section and our forthcoming Milan show review.
