London – Kay Kwok’s autumn/winter 2014 collection, presented at London Collections: Men fashion show this week, paid homage to outer space with futuristic prints and proportions.
Kwok used cut-and-paste techniques to create mixed prints of celestial skies and nebulae. While there was a nod to heritage tailoring with pinstripe trousers and shorts, overall Kwok’s oversized proportions and headgear – which looked more suited to Star Trek than the catwalk – offered a vision that could have been ripped from the pages of a science fiction novel.
The collection was fantastical and dark, transporting consumers to another world. It is reminiscent of our Industrial Futurism design direction, which pinpointed designers who were indulging in a fantasy of an intergalactic future.
