New York – Sportswear brand Nike is launching Nike+ Basketball, a digital experience that tracks, records and analyses every aspect of a player’s basketball game through a sensor in a shoe.
The first Basketball shoe, the Nike Hyperdunk+, will be launched later this year. The digitally enabled training shoe uses a pressure sensor to record how high players jump, how fast they run and how hard they play. The collected information and measurements are delivered back to players’ smartphone ready to share among peers and challengers.
Nike CEO Mark Parker says the shoe ‘represents a shift for Nike from product, to product plus experiences’.
Earlier this year we wrote about Nike+ FuelBand. This is another example of a product that can be used by our Self-Quants tribe to improve their lifestyle and health using personal data.
