London – During our Re-enlightenment Design Network Evening, held at The Future Laboratory HQ last week, LS:N Global visual editor Joanna Tulej interviewed Attua Aparicio and Oscar Wanless, the duo behind Silo Studio, to discuss their hand-made approach to industrial materials.
Silo Studio focuses on using industrial materials in a hands-on craft manner. ‘We are looking at the technologies of making,’ said Wanless. It is a process of discovery, beginning with these technologies, but then veering off in unexpected directions, such as steaming polystyrene at 100 degrees to create unique furniture and jewellery. ‘It is about understanding how things are made. If this is made this way and that is made that way, maybe we can combine them together,’ added Aparicio.
