Las Vegas – An on-demand cinema experience will be available to consumers this spring when LG Electronics and online movie rental company Netflix launch their new broadband HDTVs. The new system will allow viewers to access high-definition film content on the internet and watch it on their television screens.
Netflix announced Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas that it has struck a deal with LG to make broadband-enabled HDTV sets that stream movies from the Netflix website without an external device. Members of the film subscription service will have access to unlimited streaming of more than 100,000 movie titles that they can instantly watch on the LG television set.
Another example of technology adapting to the Homedulgence trend, the new television has implications for Blu-ray discs – after all, why go out and buy an HD disc when you can get HD quality directly on your television?
