Milan – Breathe by Mini Living and architecture firm SO-IL is a concept building that examines the future challenges of urban planning.
- Located between two existing buildings, the ‘resource-conscious’ living space is five metres wide and ten metres tall
- The project aims to highlight the shortage of housing in cities
Embodying Mini’s principles of ‘creative use of space’ and ‘minimal footprint’, the four-storey structure provides room for three people. The home is designed to behave like an active eco-system that interacts with and is shaped by its surroundings, with walls made from transparent mesh screening lined with PVC, which filter the air and let in natural light.
Breathe was constructed using sustainable and re-usable materials, and Mini is planning to create a flat-pack version that can be easily rolled out in other urban locations.
‘There is the potential to create micro-neighbourhoods from this type of housing all over the world,’ Oke Hauser, creative lead of Mini Living, tells LS:N Global.
