Johannesburg – A new design hotel brings a city’s past up to date. 12 Decades, a self-catering hotel in the Maboneng Precinct, features 12 rooms dedicated to 12 decades in the city’s history, from 1886 to 2006. Each room has been designed by a South African artist or designer, including a Bauhaus-inspired room by Johannesburg design duo Dokter and Misses and a Flexthetic space created by Goodman Gallery director Kim Stern.
From Belgium to Poland to Portugal, hoteliers are drawing on art and design influences to present a portrait of a place.
