Reims – Going green is the new pink, according to French winemaker Pommery, which has launched POP Earth champagne.
The bubbly is made from sustainably harvested grapes, and comes in lightweight glass bottles with recycled-paper labels printed in water-soluble inks. The bottles of champagne are transported to retailers in the US by boat. The champagne, which is an eco-friendly addition to the winemaker’s popular POP line, is a mix of sustainably grown pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier grapes, and has hints of ‘warm brioche…tropical flavours and a lovely roundness’, says Pommery’s cellar master, Thierry Gasco.
The move is in line with our recent report on Prohibition Culture, in which Futerra creative director Ed Gillespie says going green should be experientially exciting and socially glamorous.
