Milan – Oversized scarves, hiking boots, thick jumpers and ultra-long skirts – this could be a scene from the cold snap that recently hit Europe. Instead, it is the new menswear collection from Japanese designer Giuliano Fujiwara – a range of layered, flowing garments that evoke images of the samurai.
While we have seen the rough-and-ready aesthetic take hold in fashion in the past 12 months, a more primitive, thrown-together look is beginning to emerge. With basic, unrefined layers draped one on top of the other, Fujiwara’s collection suggests a post-apocalyptic take on the world.
