Pasadena, California – Game studio Funktronic Labs has designed a journey into a sub-atomic landscape that uses infrared motion-tracking technology with the Oculus Rift.

Collider is an immersive virtual experience that makes use of the Leap Motion, a device that attaches to the Oculus Rift allowing interaction with the virtual world.

Funktronic developed the experience in collaboration with Japanese multimedia artist Baiyon, which takes users into a psychedelic, never-ending vortex inspired by the Large Hadron Collider.

By grabbing and pulling at the air in front of them, users can propel themselves further into new generative visuals accompanied by futuristic House beats. Users control the speed and intensity in a self-driven progression.

Leap Motion uses two stereo cameras and three infrared LEDs to create an accurate map of movements in front of the Oculus Rift. This affords near-zero latency, incredibly accurate finger-tracking – and all without the need for wearable sensors.
