Milan Salone 2015 – The ‘#ECAL #PhotoBooth’ exhibition during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile explores how the selfie phenomenon has altered our modern-day perception of ourselves.
- Visitors are taken on a playful journey through interactive installations that explore our relationship with contemporary self-portraiture through the lens of mobile phones
- Students from the Bachelor Photography and Master Product Design course collaborated on the exhibition
‘We wanted to make visitors interact with the exhibits and turn viewers into the main actors in the exhibition,’ Alexis Georgacopoulos, director of École Cantonale d’Art de Lausanne (ECAL), tells LS:N Global. In the spirit of The Sharded Self, the pieces explore how the nature of multiple online identities, selfies and distorted self-portraiture is influencing visual culture. The interactive installations also encourage viewers to record their journey through mobile phones, hacked webcams and other playful and experimental media.
