Milan Salone 2015 – Airbnb and Fabrica are welcoming visitors to Palazzo Crespi during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile through a series of site-specific interactive installations called Housewarming.
- Following a series of design collaborations, Airbnb has worked with design studio Fabrica to convey the brand’s innate connection to service design
- Designers reference their individual cultural backgrounds and interpretations of welcome rituals
‘The ethos of design has always been ingrained in Airbnb’s DNA,’ Joe Gebbia, Airbnb co-founder, tells LS:N Global. The brand wanted to explore the notion of designing experiences, as opposed to solely tangible objects often featured at Salone Internazionale del Mobile, to be more in line with the nature of Airbnb’s service.
The space of the Palazzo has been opened to the public for the first time for the exhibition, and visitors can experience a live interaction that suggests how to lose yourself in a new city, see a traditional Indian welcoming flower rug with a kinetic twist, and learn about unique postcard production processes. Before the exhibition, LS:N Global visited the home of Fabrica in Italy for an insight into the process of designing and making the pieces for the Housewarming exhibition.
