Argentina – Publisher Pequeño Editor has created a children’s book that can be planted after being read.

  • Based on a real story, it inspires readers to consider the destruction of natural habitats
  • ‘A book that returns to nature what it took from it’ – Pequeño Editor

Written and illustrated by Gusti and Anne Decis, My Dad Was in the Jungle is a story about a father’s adventures in the Ecuadorian wilderness. Children can practise its message of preservation by planting the book and watch as a lilac-flowered jacaranda tree grows from its pages.

Made from environmentally friendly acid-free paper, and silk screened and printed with ecological ink, the book contains seeds that are carefully sown into the pages from which the tree will grow.

The Big Picture: Parents wary of their children growing up in an age of unabated consumerism are using interactive and thought-provoking experiences to teach them about their ecological impact. Read our Whole-system Thinking macrotrend for more.
