Toronto – Sport and leisure centre Battle Sports has opened a new facility where members of the public can take out their pent-up anger on inanimate objects.
- Customers are provided with protective gear and a baseball bat
- Idea inspired by Serbian team who started similar service in 2013
In the Rage Room, consumers can pay £9.85 (C$20, €13.40) for a 30-minute session and a set of five plates that are free to smash. Other items available for customers to take out their frustration on include picture frames, wine glasses, vases and wooden chairs.
‘I thought that [the Rage Room] would work well in Toronto because it’s such a high-stress city,’ says Battle Sports co-founder Tim Cheung. I decided to make it happen, and we made some retrofits to the room, told some people about it, and the attention it has [attracted] since is phenomenal. People who come to let off steam find the whole experience oddly therapeutic.’
The Big Picture: Consumers are increasingly seeking new and extreme experiences. The Rage Room gives customers the chance to let go of their inhibitions and act in a way that goes against common etiquette. Learn more by reading our macrotrend The Polarity Paradox.
