UK – Bo Gilbert, the star of Harvey Nichols’ latest print advert, is the first centenarian to feature in Vogue.

  • The campaign is featured exclusively in British Vogue’s centenary issue
  • A short documentary film, directed by Kell Mitchell, tells Gilbert’s story

In June, British Vogue will mark its 100th birthday, and to celebrate, Harvey Nichols has hired Bo Gilbert, one of Britain’s oldest women, to star in a one-off print campaign. Gilbert is shown wearing the latest looks from Victoria Beckham, Dries van Noten, The Row and Lanvin, photographed by renowned fashion photographer and Dazed founder Phil Poynter.

Gilbert was born in south Wales in 1916, and made her life in Birmingham, where over the decades she has witnessed fashion trends come and go. In a video released to coincide with June’s commemorative edition of Vogue, she offers her opinions on some of fashion’s more memorable moments such as the first time she saw a woman wearing a trouser suit.

The Big Picture

In The Flat Age Society age is just a number. Earlier this year, wearables start-up WiseWear enlisted the help of 94-year-old influencer Iris Apfel to collaborate on its latest range of products.
